In 2007, 2009, and 2012 Fekat Circus conducted three awareness-raising campaigns addressing important issues affecting the Ethiopian society (gender-based violence, female school enrollment, and HIV/tuberculosis) in collaboration with UNICEF and the European Union Delegation in Ethiopia. The performances were staged in rural and urban settings, market places, central squares, schools and meeting halls, aimed at reaching wide audiences. Such campaign performances alternate circus with theatrical acts. At the end of each show the audience is requested to intervene, as per the techniques of the forum-theatre. Spectators are invited to join the play and show how they would respond to the raised concerns— in so doing they come up with suggestions on how to tackle these issues.
